Abstract

Aim. To study new mint accessions, to identify reference accessions and sources of valuable traits, to build up and enrich a collection, to use valuable specimens of the mint gene pool in breeding and collections in educational activities.

Results and Discussion. The results of studying the working collection of hybrid mint accessions, which consists of 42 accessions selected in the breeding process, are presented. The following reference accessions and sources of economically valuable traits were selected: High productivity of dry grass: UG0600223 (127 g), UG0600001 (117 g), UG0600010 (109 g), UG0600183 (107 g), UG0600390 (105 g); High productivity of dry leaves: UG0600001 (57 g), UG0600223 (54 g), UG0600183 (52 g), UG0600399 та UG0600322 (48 g); High productivity of fresh rootstock: UG0600348 (633 g), UG0600224 (383 g), UG0600219 (364 g), UG0600001 (362 g), UG0600217 (358 g), UG0600390 (352 g), UG0600321 (337 g); Large bush diameter: UG0600402 (105 cm), UG0600217 (103 cm), UG0600001 (102 cm), UG0600390 (100 cm), UG0600183 та  UG0600383 (98 cm); Tall plants: UG0600218 (107 cm), UG0600383 (99 cm), UG0600402 (93 cm), UG0600322 та UG0600390 (74 cm); High complex resistance (9 points) to major diseases (anthracnose, powdery mildew, rust, septoriose) and pests (sucking and polyphagous): UG0600012, UG0600229, UG0600307, UG0600230, UG0600321, UG0600327, UG0600400, UG0600322.

Conclusions. Due to studies of the collection hybrid mint accessions, the working collection consisting of 42 accessions has been built up. Based on data on the working collection, sources of valuable economic traits have been identified. This contributes to an increase in the breeding efficiency to create varieties for various purposes.
