Abstract
Aim. To investigate the genetic diversity of the collection of cotton plants under irrigated conditions, including new introduced specimens; to identify valuable genotypes for use in creating new varieties.
Result and Discussion. It was found that ultra-early and early-ripening forms prevailed among the collection material. In particular, the proportion of samples with a vegetation period of up to 110 days was 24.03%, with a period of 111–115 days — 37.66% (including new samples Snezhin, Orfey, Selena), and 116–120 days — 31.10% (Tiara, Melanie, Chirpan 539). Forms with a vegetation period of 121–125 days made up 4.54% of the collection, while the mid-ripening group (126–130 days), including the new sample Helius, accounted for 1.30% of the samples. The proportion of forms with a maturation period of 131–140 days did not exceed 0.60%. In terms of productivity, the highest yield from the accounting plot was provided by the Tiara variety - 196 g/m2, which was 1.55% higher than the standard variety Pidozersky 4 (193 g/m2). The largest boll mass was noted in the Melanie sample (5.6 g), which was slightly (0.3 g) inferior to the standard. The Chirpan 539 and Helius samples were characterized by the highest yield (38.6 and 38.4%) and fiber length (31.3 and 31.8 mm), respectively, not inferior to or exceeding the standard variety.
Conclusions. The most valuable cotton samples were selected for further selection, namely: with the highest yield of 196 g/m2 - Tiara variety, with a boll weight of 5.6 g - Melanie, with a yield of 38.6 and 38.4% and a fiber length of 31.3 and 31.8 mm - Chirpan 539 and Helius, respectively.
