INTRODUCTION

Abstract

Aim. To identify source varieties and donors with high resistance to mildew and oidium among introduced grape varieties of different genetic and geographical origins.

Results and Discussion. In 2021-2023, immunological studies of introduced grape varieties were conducted. Damage by widespread grape diseases, mildew and oidium, and their effects on the bush productivity were studied. Damage to the vegetative and generative organs of the bush was assessed. Varieties that were most susceptible and most tolerant to downy mildew-induced damage to inflorescences and leaves as well as to oidium-induced damage to leaves, berries, and shoots were identified. Favorable conditions for the development of these pathogens in the research years allowed us to objectively assess pathogen resistance. A higher resistance in complex interspecies hybrids and high susceptibility in Vitis vinifera varieties were confirmed. In addition to drought-inflicted damage in 2023, inflorescences of Vitis vinifera varieties were significantly damaged by mildew, which subsequently affected the yield. Some interspecies hybrids (‘Black Rose’, ‘Gold Finger’, ‘Neptune’, ‘Poeloeske Muskotaly’, etc.) also showed significant susceptibility to downy mildew under favorable conditions.

Conclusions. The favorable conditions for the development of the pathogens in 2021 - 2023 allowed distinguishing varieties ‘Novosiolovskyi’, ‘Neptune’, ‘Amandin’, ‘Rochefort’, ‘Tair’ (control), and ‘Eugenia’, which are complex interspecies hybrids. They were distinguished due to resistance to mildew and oidium and can be used in further breeding because, in addition to resistance, they have a number of valuable breeding characteristics: large and elegant bunches, large berries, excellent gustatory properties, etc.
