INTRODUCTION
Abstract
Goal. Collection of local cultivated and wild plant gene pool samples for selection from them a samples valuable on economic and biological traits, inclusion in breeding and research programs and conservation in the collections of the National Plant Genebank of the Ukraine.16Results and discussion. The results of the expedition to collect samples of genetic resources of cultivated and wild plants of Ukrainian Woodland (Polessye) conducted in 2012 are given. Areas of Zhytomyr, Rivne, Volyn, Kyiv and Ternopil regions were examined. Locations of gene pool samples of a number of cereals, legumes, cereals, medicinal, industrial, vegetable crops are identified. There were collected 523 samples belonging to 151 species from which 89 are cultivated and 62 are wild. Among them are ancient forms of spring and winter rye, beans, potatoes, rape, rutabagas, turnips; local samples of beans, cucumber, beet, carrot, 6 species of onion, fennel, squash, zucchini, valerian, mint, calendula, nigella, 5 species of clover, alfalfa, and other plants.Conclusions. Areas of Ukrainian Polessye were explored. 523 samples of 151 plant species, of which 89 cultivated and 62 wild, were collected. It is advisable to continue the exploring of the region, encompassing other towns and attracting a wider variety of species.
