Abstract

Goal. To preserve the existing genetic material of Bromus inermis; to introduce new Ukrainian and foreign awnless brome accessions; to study a set of valuable economic traits; to register valuable accessions in the NCPGRU; to form, on this basis, a trait collection of awnless brome for the conditions of the Left-Bank-Forest Steppe of Ukraine.

Results and Discussion. The article discusses challenges in studying, preserving and using Bromus inermis collection accessions in breeding. The main valuable quantitative characteristics were determined: yield, plant height, leafage, and dry matter output percentage. On this basis, a collection, which includes 117 accessions from 12 countries (Ukraine, Russia, USA, Canada, Yugoslavia, Norway, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Georgia, Bashkiria), was created according to economic valuable traits. Thirty-five accessions – references with 43 expression levels of the trait were defined, and sources of valuable economic traits, implementation of which will improve the effectiveness of breeding, were selected.

Conclusions. Basing on the results of the 2012-2015 study, we registered 3 Bromus inermis accessions with valuable traits in the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine. The plant gene pool accession registration certificates in Ukraine were issued for each of them: Radiomutant K-1, Radiomutant K-5, Krasen.
