EVALUATION OF INBRED MAIZE LINES FOR 1000-GRAIN WEIGHT

Abstract

Goal. Selection of maize starting material based on 1000-grain weight in the climatic conditions of the Kharkiv region and formation, on these grounds, of a feature collection of self-pollinated lines.

            Results and Discussion. We defined lines-standards for productivity, grain row number per cob and grain number per row. From the collection, we distinguished 17 accessions with the 1000-grain weight of over 301 g. Among the marked lines with very high productivity, there were lines Kharkivska 215 zM, UKhS 75 and UKhS 99. On the grounds of the study results on 6 constant homozygous lines of this collection, we received “Registration Certificate of the Plant Gene Pool Accession of Ukraine“: Kharkivska 215 zM, UKhS 75, UKhL 226, UKhS 99, UKh 878, UKhS 85. On their basis, a feature collection of maize lines with increased 1000-grain weight was created and described.

            Conclusions. Use of the feature collection accessions will enhance the efficiency of maize breeding.
